Who are we?

The Marlain Chocolatier boutique was established in 1985 by Marlain Jean-Philippe, Chef, Maître Chocolatier and Confectioner. Marlain graduated top of his class in French and Creole Cuisine from the École hôtelière in Martinique. Later, he completed an advanced course on chocolate at the École Le Nôtre in Paris, France. From 1985 to 1994, Marlain won many medals and trophies in pastry and confectionery competitions at the Grands Salons d’Art Culinaire du Québec.

Ever since its beginnings, the boutique offered unique products reflecting Marlain’s talents and background. Among others, the famous Marlain and Aphrodite chocolates show his special ability to combine chocolate and spice. He also makeson the premises his unique-source chocolate bars with cocoa beans from all over the world. At Easter, various merry characters in chocolate populate the shelves at the boutique and bring smiles on our customers’ faces.

And chocolate is not the only excellent product Marlain prepares. He uses his incredible talents in cooking delicious dishes, sold frozen, various pastries, jams, hot sauce and more. He also roasts coffee, which can be bought as whole beans or ground.

“Not only is the chocolate incredibly delicious and creative - Marlain's coffee is some of the best I've ever had. He truly understands the proper bean roasting process.” -John De Luca
“I first met Marlain in his small shop in Beaconsfield in 1987 and he immediately converted me to the wonders of dark chocolate. The variety of different delectable tastes that he can make never ceases to amaze me, and he completes the picture by explaining that it is all good for you health too. When he moved to Pointe Claire, I followed faithfully and still count on my daily ration after supper. If I had to pick a favourite, it would be a toss-up between chocolate covered ginger pieces and Obama squares.” - Fred Parkinson, Beaconsfield
